Every summer in July, the Bulgarian town of Razgrad becomes a center of the unique Yoghurt Festival. This festival is combined with the Festival of Old Bulgarian traditions and Authentic Bulgarian Folklore.
Famous Bulgarian yoghurt companies offer their production at the festival as well as home made yoghurt. Visitors have the chance to taste the special Bulgarian yoghurt and try different dishes based on it. Traditionally every year at the Bulgarian Yoghurt Festival a competition of best home made yoghurt is being held. And the most famous is the one made of old women of Getzovo village (in the region of Razgrad). It is preferable for its thickness and quality. It doesn’t fall on the ground when the bowl of it is turned down.
Interesting events in the festival are the international folklore concerts and parades. Groups from five continents participate in it.
The region of Razgrad is famous not only with the Yoghurt Festival. There are various cultural and historical sites. Near the town is situated the archeological complex Abritus, a former Roman town, one of the most important for Dolna Miziya Roman province. The historical and archeological reserve Sboryanovo is in the area too, consisting of about 140 archeological and religious monuments. One of it is in UNESCO’s list of World Cultural Heritage - the Thracian tomb in Sveshtari.
